Something You Might Like to Know

Standard

Hi
I want to update all of you followers of Emma’s blog. Physically she has left us but she lives on in our hearts and minds in many different ways. This blog lives on, for example, as a testament to her spirit. Recently I was informed of something regarding Emma’s writing that, I think, might be very relevant to all of you who have accessed shapeshiftingemma and have scrolled down through these pages. It turns out that the features editor of the Evening Echo (a very popular local paper for those who don’t know it) was intending to ask her to write a regular column. To me this is a great accolade to her work. She began her blog in torturous conditions piecing together the letters of every word with the movement of her eyes. All she had was a hunger to write. Little by little her writing gained recognition. This developed to the point where she had many thousands of followers, where newspapers featured her work in their pages and where a 5 part radio program was produced based on the words of her blog. Thus to arrive at a place where an editor wanted her to write a regular column in his newspaper was an incredible achievement. Were she to have known this she could have been so proud of what she had done. For this reason I am letting you, the readers, know about it. You have valued her writing and appreciated her words and would know what this recognition would mean to her. Let’s all savour its significance in Emma’s (ongoing!) tale.

Kind regards to you…

Jonnie

By the way here is a link to the radio program that was made by Jo Pickup:

And here is a link to an article in the Evening Echo promoting that program:

  1. Wow Jonnie. Amazing.

But I am not a bit surprised . If she was still with us she may well have had a brilliant antidote noted in her blog about the Evening Echo, saying that they should have moved a bit faster….

I still think of her. I still sometimes look at the last video of her life story posted a few weeks after her passing. I do and always will draw on the way she lived her life with such bravery and courage for inspiration and wellbeing. She did so much to highlight MND through her blog and I have no doubt that examples of her blog will be highlighted and studied when our future doctors and nurses study MND. I am guessing that you will make sure of that. πŸ™‚
Your care of her was beautiful , and of Rowan and Kitty. I had the lovely experience lately through a school occasion noticing suddenly how much Miss Kitty has suddenly grown up . The adults that both the children will grow into has been so much influenced by both their parents courage, dignity and respect for one another.

Take care and rest well Emma , I still feel you around . x

Jonnie take care and well wishes to Rowan and Kitty

  2. How lovely to hear that news Jonnie. Wow! She would have absolutely loved that. We think and talk about her often. Best wishes to you, Alannah & Rowan.

  3. That is amazing Jonnie, oh how I wish Emma had know that – but who’s to say she doesn’t? πŸ™‚ This really is confirmation of her as the wise, humane, warm and wonderful writer that she was. So happy and so sad at this very moment. Thank you so much for letting us know. The blog really is the most wonderful testament (as well as you and the kids of course!) to Emma’s strength & love as she set about navigating her way on a most unasked-for journey. Hope she’s laughing her gorgeous laugh in heaven now and basking in the glory that she deserves. Big love to you and the kids Jonnie x
